Partners Procurement Service, an NHS shared service with over £600m in influenceable spend engaged Ayming to design and co-deliver a savings programme as part of a service-wide transformation.
The context
As a recently formed procurement shared service, PPS faced the challenge of managing the integration of five organisations, providing best-in-class customer service and delivering sustainable cost savings for the different member Trusts.
Ayming was engaged to conduct a holistic procurement diagnostic with a focus on identifying and subsequently delivering savings across the Truts. Furthermore, to develop and embed improved procurement processes leading to higher customer satisfaction.
Our contribution/mission
- We carefully assessed PPS’s ways-of-working against best practice to inform the short, mid and long term strategy. In parallel, we engaged with 100+ stakeholders across the different trusts and functional areas (clinical and non-clinical) to discuss and identify cost savings opportunities.
- Beyond the diagnostic phase, we worked in cross functional teams to deliver savings and operational improvements across a wide-range of clinical and non-clinical categories such as teleradiology, telecoms, couriers and clinical consumables.
- In parallel, we delivered through our Procurement Academy to members of PPS on strategic procurement and category management.

The results obtained
The programme delivered double-digit % savings on key categories addressed.
Moreover, our robust PMO and change management initiatives successfully improved cross-trust collaboration and strongly supported PPS’s overall transformation.
